Cech frustrated by latest injury set-back

.

Petr Cech has admitted he is frustrated with his bad luck this year after it was revealed he faces another spell on the sidelines with a fractured finger.

The Chelsea shotstopper picked up the injury in the 3-2 defeat against Newcastle on Saturday - his third injury lay-off since the turn of the year.

The Czech international has been forced to withdraw from his country's game against Turkey this week, and admits he feels frustrated that he has had to miss so many games in 2013 already.

"2013 started unfortunately for me," Cech told CTK. "At first it was groin, then calf and now the finger.

"Hopefully I have had my share of bad luck for the whole year already."

Cech picked up the injury trying to prevent a Newcastle goal on Saturday, but could do little as Chelsea went down 3-2, a result which heaps the pressure on interim boss Rafa Benitez.

"I punched the ball and the head of one of Newcastle players at the same time," he said.

"I thought it was nothing but went for an X-ray just in case. However, it showed there was a fracture."

Chelsea appear short of genuine replacements for Cech, and recently failed with a move to land promising youngster Jack Butland in the transfer window.

The latest injury set-back is a particular annoyance to Cech because it could rule him out of Chelsea's Europa League tie against his former club Sparta Prague later this month.

"It will depend on whether we find a solution where it would not threaten my health and, at the same time, I would be able to perform adequately," he conceded.

"I have to be able to cover the shots, push the players away and so on. If I were unable to give 100 per cent, I would not play. With the splint I have now it would not be possible at all."

He added: "I was waiting for 12 years to play against a Czech club in the European cups.

"If I should miss this chance, it would be ironic. I can't wait another 12 years, so I hope I will be ready to play."
