Mario Balotelli left Manchester City last week, having joined AC Milan on a four-and-a-half-year contract

He divided opinion amongst supporters, with many hoping his entertaining antics off the pitch would have been matched more frequently by performances on it that he was more than capable of.

Balotelli, 22, dropped down the pecking order at the Etihad to the extent that Mancini was happy to let him go without feeling the need to replace him.

But you can be certain that City will be in the market for a striker come the summer, but who will they turn to to fill the void left by the eccentric Italian?

Here are the top five contenders:

Edinson Cavani | Napoli

The 25-year-old Uruguayan has been hot property for some time now and even showed City exactly what they are missing in last seasons Champions League, scoring three times in two outings against Mancini’s men.

The Daily Mail reported that City will go head to head with Paris Saint-German for the Napoli forward in a move that could cost up to £40m.

Neymar | Santos

Probably the most sought-after talent in the world, Neymar is a wanted man.

When Pele was asked if Lionel Messi could be considered greater than himself, he said that first, he must "become better than Neymar".

A player with such pedigree will undoubtedly attract City, but with reports that Neymar is likely to join Barcelona or Real Madrid when he does eventually leave Santos, City will have to move quick if they are to lure the Brazilian striker to the Etihad Stadium.

Radamel Falcao | Atletico Madrid

The man Athletico Madrid were willing to fork out €47m for to replace Manchester City-bound Sergio Aguero, has certainly not disappointed with a return of 43 goals in 53 games since joining in 2011.

Another name linked with plenty of potential suitors, Chelsea appear to be favourites to sign the Colombian as they can offer him the chance to be the out-and-out striker, as he has been at Atletico and Porto, prior to his arrival in Spain.

Luis Suarez | Liverpool

Possibly not a popular choice with the supporters due to his Liverpool connections, but Suarez would certainly fill, if not overflow, the controversy void that Balotelli has left behind.

Suarez has shown his abilities in a far from title challenging Liverpool side who may struggle to keep hold of their Uruguayan star if they once again fail to secure Champions League qualification.

The Sun report that City are ready to offer £40m to make the deal happen.

Robert Lewandowski | Borussia Dortmund

Poland international striker, Robert Lewandowski, has been consistently scoring goals in the Bundesliga.

He's been the focal point of a successful few years for Jurgen Klopp’s young Borussia Dortmund side, with his form attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United.

Dortmund may well struggle to hold on to their most prized asset should a multi-million pound bid from City be forthcoming, but it remains to be seen whether Lewandowski is on Mancini's radar.
