Arsenal and Manchester City have been warned off transfer target Stevan Jovetic.
The 23-year-old Montenegro international was heavily linked with a move away from Fiorentina during the January transfer window, with Serie ‘A’ rivals Juventus also keen on the player.
However, Viola chairman Mario Cognigni insists that negotiations did not take place with the Bianconeri last month, and that the player is not for sale at any price, to any club.
"It's not possible that there will be any negotiations with Juventus for Stevan. In fact, it's not possible to deal with them or anyone else: Jovetic is not for sale," Cognigni told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"He is happy at Fiorentina and has a contract with us for another three years."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was linked with a move for the player in the closing stages of the January transfer window, with The Daily Express reporting that the north London outfit were considering a £20million swoop for the player.
However, a switch failed to materialise, with Spanish full-back Nacho Monreal the only addition to the Gunners’ squad in the 31-day period.
Had Jovetic moved to the Emirates Stadium, he’d have helped form an impressive attacking line-up that includes Arsenal regulars Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.
Manchester City, meanwhile, did minimal business last month, with Mario Balotelli’s exit the big talking point at the Etihad Stadium.
The Daily Express claims manager Roberto Mancini has set his sights on Jovetic as part of the club’s re-building process, with the manager name-checking the player in a previous interview.
“It is hard to find a replacement for Balotelli in January. Jovetic really interest us, he would be a good fit,” the Citizens chief told Forza Italian Football at the end of January, according to the paper.
It appears the Manchester City boss will face strong resistance for the player however, and an interesting transfer tussle could ensue this summer.
