International preview: Puyol set for 100th Spanish cap

.

European champions Spain meet Uruguay on Wednesday night, as a busy evening of international friendlies sees many of the top nations go against each other.

Winners of their last three major tournaments, including the World cup in 2010, Spain head to Doha looking to extend their unbeaten run to 18 games. Luis Suarez & Co will have other ideas, however.

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is in line to win his 100th cap for the Spaniards and, if he plays, he'll become the seventh player to do so.

Uruguay have been disappointing of late, and find themselves in fifth place in the Conmebol qualifying zone, having only won once in their last six matches.

Leaders of the South American qualification for the 2014 World Cup are Argentina, and they head to Sweden as Lionel Messi looks to outshine former Barcelona team mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Stockholm.

With 55 league goals between them this season for their respective clubs, Ibrahimovic will be hoping Sweden can continue a good run of recent results after defeating England and producing a superb comeback to recover from four down to draw in Germany.

Two big European clashes see Holland up against Italy, with the Dutch looking for their first ever friendly win over the Azzurri, whilst Germany - ranked second in the world by FIFA - make the trip to France look to beat Les Bleus for the first time in over 25 years.

The home nations are all in action on Wednesday night too, with Brazil’s visit to Wembley the stand-out tie.

Meanwhile, Scotland play host to Estonia while there are also home games for Wales and Republic of Ireland, who welcome Austria and Poland respectively. Northern Ireland’s trip to Malta completes the line-up.
