Arsenal defender, Bacary Sagna, has admitted that his recent form has not been good enough and has reassured Arsenal fans that he is working hard to put it right.

The French right-back has been known for his consistency ever since joining the side from Auxerre back in 2007, and has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

But a lack of form and injuries over the past year has seen back-up right-back Carl Jenkinson impress in his place, after gaining a lot of first-team opportunities when filling in for Sagna.

Two leg breaks have seen him face lengthy spells on the sidelines, with the 29-year-old unable to reach his previous high levels since the second injury and Sagna has admitted that his form has not been good enough but is working hard to improve his game.

he told Arsenal Player"I’m going to be honest with myself - [I’ve not been] at my best," .

"I’m not very happy with myself, but it’s football. It’s a part where I need to get better. I’ve been working since last summer but I need to work more because I’ve been out a long time.

"I didn’t really have a pre-season but at a high level you don’t have time to breathe. You have a game every three days and have to keep coming. I’m looking forward to coming back to my best.

"It’s a bit of everything," he went on. "When you don’t perform as you used to be when you’ve been injured for so long, you need your confidence back. That’s been a bit low recently.

"I’m a professional so I know it can happen, but not for too long. Everyone is waiting for me to perform well so I’m looking forward to doing it," he said.

Arsenal travel to the Stadium Of Light on Saturday as they face Sunderland in the Premier League.
