The Frenchman came through the youth ranks at Manchester United after joining the club as a teenager, but never made a telling impression on the first-team.
But Pogba blames Ferguson for not giving him the opportunity to shine, despite United suffering from a shortage of central midfielders.
The report claims the 19-year-old saw the return of a 37-year-old Paul Scholes as the final straw, and resolved to leave the club for first-team football elsewhere.
Scholes retired at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season, but returned in January 2012. Pogba eventually completed his move on a free transfer to the Italian champions at the end of the season.
Speaking to The Times, Pogba said: “It was all down to Ferguson. I didn’t want to sign a contract as Ferguson didn’t play me, even though there were no midfielders there. He obviously thought I didn’t deserve the contract I asked for and didn’t put me in the team even though he had no midfield players, it was his choice.
“United were short of midfield players like me, but it was the manager’s decision. I couldn’t do anything about it. I was very frustrated because he spoke to me a few times and said I was nearly there.
“I told him: “If I don’t play then I can’t get any experience and see how far I have to go.” I played in a few cup games but he didn’t want to give me a contract and they just let me go.”
But the France youth international was highly-rated at Old Trafford by the coaching staff, and many felt it was a disappointment to see him go.
His consider potential is now evident at Juventus, where he’s made his mark on the first-team – scoring four goals in 19 appearances so far this season.
At United, Pogba made just a handful of substitute appearances, and felt the writing was on the wall when Ferguson brought Scholes out of retirement.
He continued: “When I saw Scholes come back part of me was really happy as he’s a legend, but I knew it was the end for me. The manager thought Scholes had to play, not me, and after that I had to leave.
“Maybe Ferguson will regret it now but I don’t think about Manchester United anymore. I have no regrets about leaving Manchester, none at all.”
