Manchester United were given a stark warning over what to expect from former star Cristiano Ronaldo when they travel to Santiago Bernabeu next week when the £80million man scored a quick-fire hat-trick for Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho’s side crushed Sevilla 4-1 on Saturday to get back to winning ways in La Liga after the shock loss at Granada last week.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for los Blancos after 18 minutes from a Ronaldo assist, before the Portuguese superstar took over.

He doubled the lead after 25 minutes with an outstanding long-range effort before a pair of tap-ins during the second half made it 4-0.

Sevilla scored a late consolation with a nice solo effort from Manuel del Moral, but Madrid were irresistible on the night.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be worried about the prospect of a buoyant Cristiano Ronaldo, while football neutrals are licking their lips over the prospect of watching the two sides in action.

The first leg of the UEFA Champions League last 16 tie between Real Madrid and Manchester United takes place next Wednesday, February 13.
