Real Madrid have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Gareth Bale in the hope of completing a deal for the Tottenham winger when the transfer window opens again in July.

According to Spanish newspaper Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Real Madrid have sounded out Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett and are preparing to approach Tottenham with an offer in the region of £38 million.

The Santiago Bernabeu are reported to be confident they will be able to secure the transfer of Bale, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez identifying Bale as his No.1 target in an election year.

Bale's recent performances have led to rife speculation that this could be his last season as a Tottenham player, and Real Madrid would appear to be the 23-year-old's most likely destination were he to leave White Hart Lane.

The Wales international has scored 15 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this campaign, with his latest contribution coming in the form of a brace int he 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

Bale has scored each of Tottenham's last four goals in the Premier League, with strikes against Norwich and West Brom preceding his double against Alan Pardew's side.

His displays of late have led to comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, and Bale could be set to become a teammate of the former at Real Madrid in July.
