Hugo Lloris has admitted it will be difficult lining up against his former Lyon team-mates for Tottenham when the two sides meet in the Europa League on Thursday - but says is focused on helping Spurs through to the next round.

Lloris completed a £12 million move from Lyon to White Hart Lane over the summer and has established himself as the club's number one after a shaky start to his career in north London.

Spurs face Lyon in the last 32 stage of the Europa League at White Hart Lane on Thursday, and Lloris concedes he will find it difficult coming face to face with his former team-mates so soon after leaving the Ligue 1 club.

"It's not easy for me because it is very soon after my move, but I am concentrating and I'm ready to play this game for Tottenham and to be in the next round," he said in an interview with Spurs TV Online.

"I received a lot of calls and a lot of messages [after the draw was made] because I have a lot of friends there still, and it is not easy for me because I have a good relationship with all my ex-team-mates.

"But that's football and on the pitch there are no friends. We play for our team and we give the best we can for the team."

The 26-year-old has been in fine form of late, and has only conceded seven Premier League goals since the start of December to help 4th-placed Spurs move to within one point of Chelsea above them in 3rd.

Tottenham have lost only once in that time and go into the game against Lyon confident of securing an advantage ahead of a trip to France for the second leg - but Lloris, who made his debut for Spurs in the Europa League against Lazio, has warned his team-mates that it is a long road to the final in Amsterdam in May.

He said: "The competition is very difficult, it's very long but we have a good team and we can do something in this competition."

He added of the threat his former side pose: "Lyon have great players like Lisandro [Lopez] and [Bafetimbi] Gomis. They also have young players from the academy who have the potential to be very good like [Mathieu] Gorgelin. It will be a difficult game."
