With the gap between United and City stretched to 12 points following last weekend’s defeat to Southampton, Roberto Mancini will be looking to strengthen his squad for the start of next season.
These 5 players could well be near the top of his wish list for the new campaign, any one of whom will be a great addition.
1. Edinson Cavani
Manchester City will remember Cavani from their Champions League run last season, after the striker scored three times in their two group meetings, as Roberto Mancini’s men failed to progress. The 25-year-old Uruguayan is an agile and powerful forward who can cause havoc in the box with his commanding presence. 67 goals in 89 appearances for Napoli suggest he would be an ideal signing for the Manchester club.
2. Radamel Falcao
Another striker that will no doubt have attracted Man City’s attention is Atletico Madrid’s Falcao. His incredible goal scoring form over recent months means he has turned into one of the world’s top forwards, making it into FIFA’s team of the year. For his current club Madrid, he has grabbed 43 goals in just 53 appearances, and with that kind of consistency it is not hard to see why Mancini would be interested in him.
3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
One player that certainly may not be quite as familiar to fans as the above, is Aubameyang. The striker's incredible pace and quality skill however, has made him unnoticeable to City's staff. He currently plays for Saint-Étienne in the French Ligue 1 and represents Gabon at international level. With 27 goals in 71 appearances, he certainly looks an exiting prospect for the future.
4. Mats Hummels
The German International and current Borussia Dortmund central defender is also another of Europe’s top talents. Hummels has 24 caps for the German national team and as made 136 appearances for his club scoring 13 goals. Playing a huge part in Dortmund’s league winning season last year, he has also impressed in the Champions League, helping the German’s win their group ahead of Real Madrid, Ajax, and Manchester City.
Tracked by a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, Neymar is fast becoming one of the stars of the game. With 54 goals for his current club Santos, the Brazilian trickster, is a skillful, pacey forward that is likely to be heading to Europe in the near future. If the Premier League took his fancy, Man City would no doubt be one of the frontrunners to secure his signature.
