Arsenal star Walcott confident of Champions League spot
Arsenal news: Theo Walcott confident of Champions League spot
Theo Walcott insists Arsenal are 'very confident' of finishing the season in the top four to ensure a place in the Champions League for 2013/14.
Arsenal remain in this year's competition, but face a daunting last 16 tie against Bayern Munich, and are in danger of failing to reach Europe's premier club competition for the first time during the reign of Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners are currently placed fifth in the Premier League - four points behind Tottenham - but can take inspiration from the way they overcame a 13 point deficit last season to end the campaign above their north London rivals.
Arsenal and Tottenham face a potentially pivotal encounter at White Hart Lane in just over three weeks, while the Gunners must face top four challengers Everton only six days later.
Walcott, though, believes the victory over Sunderland last weekend is evidence that Arsenal are hitting their now trademark late season stride and says the Emirates Stadium club have what it takes to end the campaign in the Champions League places.
"We’re very confident [of finishing in the top four]. We can battle through any sort of situation. The teams around us are winning as well, but we’ve just got to make sure we look after ourselves and try to win as often as we can," Walcott told the official Arsenal website.
"We’ll see where we are at the end of the season but we’ve got to show the belief we did at Sunderland. I felt there were a lot of winners in that dressing room and the boys were fantastic."
