Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Younes Belhanda is not guaranteed a move away from Montpellier in the summer.

That’s according to club chairman Laurent Nicollin, who insists that the Moroccan midfielder will only be allowed to leave if a ‘nice opportunity’ arises for the Ligue 1 champions.

"With Younes we have the same words we had with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa [who left for Newcastle],” he told L’Equipe.

"We will take stock in April-May. We didn't sign any paper to state he will absolutely leave in July. If he has a good season that would allow him to get a nice opportunity and if the club could take advantage of it, why not."

Nicollin’s comments suggest the door is certainly not closed for Spurs to sign the 22-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane during the January transfer window.

Indeed, reports in The Daily Mail at the end of December claimed Andre Villas-Boas was preparing a £10million move for the 19-cap international in the opening days of the New Year.

A move failed to materialise however, with Belhanda almost joining Fenerbache instead of Tottenham Hotspur after agreeing personal terms with the Turkish giants.

The two clubs couldn’t agree terms however, and the player will be back on the market at the end of the season if Spurs want to bring him to north London.

But, as Montpellier confirmed, they are under no obligation to let the player leave for the Premier League.
