Manchester United wait on Barcelona stopper over summer move

Manchester United are ‘waiting in the wings’ ahead of a potential move for Victor Valdes in the summer, according to reports.

The Daily Express claims Sir Alex Ferguson is on ‘standby’ over the player’s availability, having first been linked with a move for the Spanish international during the January transfer window.

The paper goes on to cite Spanish reports when claiming that Valdes has told friends he wants to leave the La Liga leaders at the end of the season, with the 31-year-old believing he’s undervalued at the Nou Camp under Tito Vilanova.

Valdes isn’t short of experience on the big stage, lifting three European crowns and multiple domestic crowns during his decade in Catalonia.

And, if he moves to Manchester United, he’d compete with compatriot David De Gea for first team opportunities at Old Trafford.

A move would be harsh on the youngster though, who enjoyed an evening to remember for the Red Devils in the Champions League against Real Madrid last night.

Prior to the performance in the Santiago Bernabeu, there had been question marks over the player’s ability between the sticks for Manchester United, although his display against Los Blancos certainly silenced the critics - for now at least.
