Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to omit Nani from the Champions League match-day squad to face Real Madrid on Wednesday has pushed the Portuguese winger closer to the Old Trafford exit door, according to the Daily Express.
The former-Sporting star looks set to quit the club at the end of the season, with Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha ready to join the Red Devils at the end of the season.
The report claims Zenit St Petersburg attempted to sign Nani last summer, but the Portugal international reportedly favours a move back to his native country or Spain.
Manchester United are thought to be unwilling to sell him to a Premier League title rival, all but ruling out a move to one of the current top four.
Earlier this week, Ferguson revealed it was a difficult decision to leave Nani out against the La Liga champions.
"There were a lot of disappointed players," said Ferguson. "Nani and Ashley Young - international footballers - and I found it hard to explain to them I was leaving them out."
United secured a 1-1 draw from their trip to the Bernabeu - Danny Welbeck providing the crucial away goal.
Ferguson also opted to leave out club captain Nemanja Vidic and Mexican international Javier Hernandez for the tie, and admitted there were no easy decisions.
Ferguson added: "I explained to Chicharito that Robin Van Persie is our main striker and we wanted someone to join in from a deeper position.
"Whenever Chicharito plays, he delivers. He has 14 goals, he will score more than 20 and will have opportunities."
