Fiorentina insist there are no plans to sell Arsenal and Manchester City target Stevan Jovetic in the summer.
The 23-year-old Montenegro international was heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi last month, with Premier League clubs keen on the player.
Speculation has continued in February, with The Daily Telegraph claiming Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is ‘seriously considering’ a £20million bid for the player at the end of the season.
However, Viola sporting director Daniele Prade insists there is ‘not a problem’ between club and player, despite a recent run of poor form, and that discussions are underway with Jovetic’s agent over a new contract.
"Jovetic is not a problem. He is having a lacklustre period but we want to keep him as a top player of ours,” said Prade, according to Sky Sports.
"We are talking about his contract (and his new buyout clause) with his agent very calmly, and then we have to see where we will be at the end of the season."
Arsenal are short of options in attack, with Olivier Giroud the only out-an-out striker available to Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
Both Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski can also do a job for the manager if required, but Jovetic would certainly add a more direct attacking dimension to the Gunners front-line if lured to north London.
Manchester City, meanwhile, sold Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in the final stages of the January transfer window – potentially freeing up space for a new striker.
And, whilst Roberto Mancini didn’t have time to replace the Italian at the Etihad Stadium, he was happy to admit that Jovetic is a player he admires.
Alongside Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko, the former Partizan Belgrade starlet would help form one of the most feared attacking lines in European football at Manchester City.
But, both Premier League teams look set to miss out, as Vincenzo Montella attempts to keep his prized asset happy in Serie ‘A’.
