Lazio striker Miroslav Klose has revealed he almost signed for Barcelona during the summer transfer window of 2007, but instead joined German giants Bayern Munich when he left Werder Bremen.

The Germany international was in high demand following a potent three season spell in Bremen, but stayed in the Bundesliga by completing a €7.5 million transfer to Bayern.

Klose could, however, have joined Barcelona and formed a potentially destructive partnership with Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho.

But the 34-year-old does not regret his decision to forgo a transfer to the Camp Nou in order to move to the Allianz Arena.

"The possibility of joining Barca is now far away, but I came very close in 2007," Klose told Mundo Deportivo.

“I would love to play for Barcelona because they are definitely one of the best teams in the world.

“Certainly it would have been great, because football is played there as I like it. But as I said, that is in the past.

“And I ended up going to Bayern. It was a good decision, because as I said, I learned a lot.”

Klose scored 52 goals in 149 appearances during four seasons with Bayern Munich - winning two Bundesliga titles - before joining Lazio on a free transfer in 2011.

The German, who is his country's second highest appearance maker and second top goalscorer, has found the net on 27 occasions in 58 appearances for the Rome club.
