Chelsea have been handed a potential transfer boost over Radamel Falcao, with Atletico Madrid expressing their interest in bringing Fernando Torres back to the club.
‘El Nino’ became a hero at the Vicente Calderon stadium, spending six-years with the club as a professional before leaving for Liverpool in 2007.
The Blues then spent £50million on the Spanish international three-and-a-half years later, but his time at Stamford Bridge has been a major disappointment despite success in the Champions League last season.
And, his spell in west London could come to an end when the season finishes, with his former employers keen on bringing the player back to La Liga.
“Despite all his problems at Chelsea, Torres is still held in great affection at Atletico and he would be welcomed back,” a Spanish source told The Sunday Mirror.
The paper goes on to claim that Blues owner Roman Abramovich will pursue Falcao’s signature at the end of the season, but that the club’s valuation of Torres may hold the key to a move.
Torres has weekly wages in the region of £175,000, whilst Falcao has a £46million minimum fee release clause in his contract.
Bayern Munich are also interested in the Colombian international’s services, and Chelsea still have plenty of negotiating to do if they are to bring the 27-year-old to the King’s Road.
