Barcelona defender Dani Alves has urged Brazilian superstar Neymar to join him at the Nou Camp.

The Santos sensation has been heavily linked with Europe's biggest clubs in recent months, and the Spanish giants are one of those said to be interested in the player.

And, despite previous reports claiming a deal had already been done proving to be false; Alves continues to fight the corner of Barca in this particular transfer battle.

"I've been at it for ages. When the rumours of him making a move to Europe started I told him he should come to Barcelona," the full-back told FIFA.com.

"It's more than a club. The motto says it all: they look after you, they pamper you and they always treat you and your family well. Look, it's got values that virtually no other club has, and that's what makes it unique.

"Everyone says you can't compete with Barcelona, but if you go to the club, you'll see that they work from the bottom up and that's why we've got all these great players. If you look at the signings they make, they just buy what they need.

"The rest of the players are all from the youth set-up. They made a commitment to it and the results are there."

Manchester City appear to be the Premier League’s biggest challengers in the pursuit of Neymar’s signature, with huge financial resources at Roberto Mancini’s disposal.

However, reports in The Daily Express last week claimed the Citizens were losing the battle to the Catalan giants, who are ‘unrelenting’ in their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Whilst Robinho and Elano both made waves for a brief period at the Etihad Stadium, the Brazilian connection is thin on the ground at Manchester City, whilst Barcelona can point to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo in their recent history.

"My dream is to see Neymar playing for FC Barcelona like Ronaldinho, Romario, Rivaldo and Ronaldo did in the past,” president Joan Laporta told Catalunya Radio.

Were Manchester City to win the race for the 28-cap international, it would be a huge transfer coup for the club. But, there is plenty of work to do if the English champions are to get ahead of the La Liga leaders on the negotiating table.
