Incoming Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has made the signing of Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale his top priority this summer, according to reports.

Guardiola opted to move to Germany this summer to continue his managerial career after becoming one of the best in the business while at Barcelona. The Spaniard will reportedly be given a transfer budget of around £100m to improve his side, half of which may be spent on the Welsh winger.

Real Madrid have been tracking the 23-year-old for some time and are considered to be the favourites to land him when he does decide to leave White Hart Lane, however the prospect of teaming up with Guardiola could tip the balance in Bayern’s favour for a player who claimed this week that he was in the form of his life.

"This is probably the best I’ve been playing so far in my career," admitted Bale. "I’m enjoying my football and the team’s playing well, which obviously makes it easier for me.

"I’ve just got to keep my head down, keep working hard. I’ve still got a lot of room for improvement."

Bale has made no secret of the fact that he would like to play abroad at some stage of his career and if Tottenham fail to seal Champions League football then a move away from White Hart Lane is almost certain.

Bayern are currently 18 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and are on their way towards claiming a 22nd title, while they face Arsenal in the last-16 of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
