Hernandez tips Manchester United stopper to become world’s best

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is the latest high-profile player to give his backing to David de Gea.

The Spanish stopper has come in for plenty of criticism since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, but was the star of the show for the Red Devils in their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 encounter last week.

And, in the eyes of ‘Chicharito’, there is no doubt that the 22-year-old is on the road to becoming one of the very best in the business.

“He’s been brilliant. He’s a complete goalkeeper and you can see the great saves he’s made. A lot of people who really know about football say he is a top-class keeper. It’s why Manchester United bought him,” the Mexican told MUTV.

“People say clearing corners and free-kicks are a weak part of his game but he’s doing brilliantly. For me, in a couple of years or less, he will be the number one in the world.”

Hernandez also believes that one of the goalkeeper’s best attributes is his ability to ignore the critics, with his focus proving decisive in the recent turnaround at Old Trafford.

“He is very focused and doesn’t listen to all that rubbish they speak about him,” added the striker.

“He has a lot of confidence from us and we tell him every day he’s a very good keeper. He plays and enjoys it. He knows he can be the best in the world and for this club.”

Both players started for Manchester United in last night’s FA Cup fifth round victory over Reading last night (Monday), and will be hoping to help the English giants to a rare treble, as the fight for three pieces of silverware continues for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
