Xavi is set to return to the FC Barcelona midfield for their Champions League round of 16 tie against AC Milan tonight, according to the club's official website.

Xavi took a full part in his sides pre-match training session at the San Siro yesterday, having originally complained of a hamstring problem after being substituted late on in Barca's 1-1 draw with Valencia on February 3.

As a precaution, he withdrew from the Spain squad for their friendly against Uruguay in Qatar, and has since missed Barcelona's wins over Getafe and Granada.

The return of the little maestro will most likely relegate Thiago Alcantara to the substitutes bench, with Xavi likely to partner Cesc Fabregas in midfield, pushing Andres Iniesta to a more advanced position on the left wing against the Italian giants.

With two clashes against Real Madrid on the horizon and a return leg against AC Milan all in the next few weeks, Xavi’s comeback could not have come at a more optimal time for the Catalans.

However, Barcelona are missing influential striker David Villa after he continued to feel discomfort after his kidney stone treatment this past week. Adriano Correia will also be staying at home after aggravating a hamstring injury in the first half of this past weekend's 2-1 defeat of Granada.

Despite the duo's absence, a strong Barcelona squad have travelled to Milan as they look to gain a first leg advantage to take back to the Nou Camp.

The full list of Barcelona players travelling to Milan is: Valdés, Pinto, Oier, Dani Alves, Piqué, Fabregas, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Sanchez, Messi, Thiago, Mascherano, Bartra, Busquets, Pedro, Jordi Alba, Montoya, Song, and Tello.
