Chelsea and Manchester City have been given a boost in their pursuit of Radamel Falcao as Atletico Madrid have lined up a possible replacement.
According to the Express, Diego Simeone has lined up Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez to fill the void at the Vicente Calderon that would be left by the departure of Falcao.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been heavily linked with a move for the Colombian striker over the past year.
Gomez has fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena following the signing of Mario Mandzukic in the summer and Atleti see the Germany international as an ideal replacement for Falcao.
Despite signing Demba Ba from Newcastle united in January, Chelsea have been linked with a move for a big name striker in the summer as Fernando Torres’ poor form continues.
The Spain international cannot seem to put a run of good games together and the interest in Falcao could be a signal that they have given up on the former Liverpool hotshot.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are a striker short after the sale of Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in January and doubts over Edin Dzeko’s future.
Falcao has been in blistering form once again for Atletico this season – he has already found the net 24 times.
Three of those goals came in the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea early in the season, so the Blues will have a good idea of what he can do.
