Manchester United are interested in signing Ecuador defender Frickson Erazo after a scouting mission turned up positive results.
Erazo confirmed the Old Trafford club were keen to meet with him after they were impressed by what they had seen.
However, the 24-year-old insisted he would be ignoring any interest from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and was keen to concentrate on his football for current club Barcelona in his native country.
Erazo did admit to being flattered by the interest shown in him from sides as prestigious as Manchester United.
“I try not to think about this," he is quoted as saying in a report from talkSPORT.
"It's really flattering that big European clubs are watching football in my country, but if you think about playing with Real Madrid or Manchester United you risk losing concentration.
"It's true that there was initial contact, but it will not help if my performance drops."
Erazo has spent his entire career in Ecuador and was playing for the famous El Nacional club before moving to Barcelona.
Manchester United’s interest could be to do with them seeing him as a long-term replacement for one of their ageing defenders, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Although, Sir Alex Ferguson does have a reasonable supply of young defenders coming through once the time comes to replace his veterans.
Were he to join Manchester United, Erazo would join another Ecudorian at Old Trafford – his international teammate Antonio Valencia.
