Neymar's agent Wagner Ribeiro has claimed Pele would be 'inferior' to Neymar if he played today, according to Goal.com.
Pele suggested earlier this week that the 21-year-old Brazil star cares more about his hair and fashion than his football, and criticised his recent performances for the national team.
But Ribeiro has hit back, claiming that Pele's attack on Neymar is borne out of jealousy.
Speaking to Globoesporte, and reported by Goal.com, Ribeiro said: "Pele should look after his grandchildren instead of talking about Neymar, it is jealousy.
"If Pele played nowadays, he would be inferior to Neymar. In his time, all the defenders were slow and the fitness levels were not the same."
Relations between Neymar and Pele seemed to have soured - it wasn't too long ago that Pele described the young striker as the best player in the world.
But in a recent interview with O Estado de Sao Paulo, Pele was stinging in his criticism of the Brazil forward.
Pele said: "For the national team, he's just an ordinary player. Every match we have outside the country, he doesn't perform well.
"He's got a huge responsibility and his greatest concern is to change his style, change his hair cut."
Neymar disappointed during Brazil's recent friendly against England at Wembley, but the 21-year-old is still regarded as his nation's greatest hope when it comes to delivering a famous win on home soil at next year's World Cup.
The Santos forward is continually linked with a move to Europe's biggest clubs, but Neymar has until now insisted he intends to stay in Brazil until after the World Cup.
