Liverpool predicted line-up v Zenit St. Petersburg

Published 1 Comments

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to name a strong side for the Europa League last 32 second leg against Zenit St Petersburg, with the Reds on the back-foot following a 2-0 defeat in Russia.

Pepe Reina will start between the sticks at Anfield, with a first-choice back four likely to be ahead of him.

That means Glen Johnson should get the nod at right back, with Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel in the centre. Jamie Carragher could be rested, with Jose Enrique continuing his run at left back.

In midfield, captain Steven Gerrard will be called upon to give another Anfield masterclass, with Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson also holding the centre for the Reds in a 4-3-3 formation. Joe Allen is also in contention

Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho are both cup-tied – a major blow after their impressive displays for Rodgers against Swansea City at the weekend.

However, that gives Raheem Sterling a chance to win his first-team place back, with Stewart Downing on the opposite flank for Liverpool. Luis Suarez will lead the line on Merseyside.

Liverpool predicted line-up v Zenit St. Petersburg:

Pepe Reina; Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique; Jordan Henderson, Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva; Raheem Sterling, Luis Suarez, Stewart Downing.
