Arsenal are planning a surprise swoop for promising Chelsea youngster Nathan Chalobah this summer.

According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has been very impressed with the 18-year-old’s progress while on loan at Watford under Gianfranco Zola.

The former Chelsea star has his side chasing promotion, with Chalobah proving to be a useful part of the squad and the Gunners feel they can lure him across London to Emirates Stadium.

Chalobah can play in a number of positions and has turned out in central midfield, as well as defence for the Hornets.

Arsenal have recently tied up the futures of young British stars Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson.

Wenger believes he can exploit the difficulty Chalobah will find in trying to break into the Chelsea first team to convince him to join the other British stars at the Gunners.

The Sierra Leone-born star has had a successful year, with his successes while out on loan being added to by being named Youth Player of the Year at the FA’s inaugural England Awards.

An England Under-21 star, Chalobah is predicted to have a bright future and Chelsea are likely to do all they can to resist any approach from Arsenal.
