Villas-Boas: Tottenham are not a one-man team

Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed the idea that Tottenham are over reliant on Gareth Bale.

Bale has been the driving force behind Tottenham's recent good run of form which has seen them consolidate 4th place in the Premier League and move one step closer to qualifying for the last-16 of the Europa League.

The Welshman, who has been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, has six goals in his last four games for Spurs, and is the only Tottenham player to score in that time.

Bale's two free-kicks helped Spurs secure a 2-1 advantage in their Europa League last-32 tie against Lyon, and ahead of the return leg at the Stade Gerland this evening Villas-Boas insisted he has plenty of other match-winners at his disposal.

"This is always the problem with big teams," the Tottenham manager said.

"Do Barcelona rely on Lionel Messi? Do Real Madrid rely on Cristiano Ronaldo? I don't think so.

"But the great players have to make the difference. They are the stars and Gareth has been magnificent this season.

"We are fortunate to have players who can be decisive on those moments."

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas ratcheted up the pressure ahead of the game against Tottenham this evening, claiming that he cannot imagine his side losing against "Les Rosbifs" - a derogatory term used to describe English people.

However Villas-Boas laughed off Aulas' pre-match comments, saying they would have no impact on the outcome of the game.

"He is a very, very charismatic leader of Lyon," the 35-year-old explained.

"It's not because of his words we're going to lose the concentration on our objective.

"We're going to face a tough, tough team and what I can decipher from those words is Lyon will be extremely up the challenge and it will be extremely difficult for us."
