Tottenham Hotspur come into the encounter with Lyon with a much rested side, having had the weekend off. Lyon, on the other hand, are at home, full of confidence following a 4-0 thrashing of Bordeaux. This should set up to be a good contest.
Lyon are likely to feature a very similar side to the one that lost at White Hart Lane just one week ago. Lyon have no injuries to report, and will surely fancy their chances to advance in the competition, despite being down 2-1 on aggregate.
Tottenham will, yet again, start Brad Friedel between the posts. This is despite Lloris' return to Lyon after his summer transfer. Since Lloris secured the starting job, Friedel has been relegated to cup games and has seen little action in the league.
Yet again, Gareth Bale will be the main threat to Lyon. There will be a lot off attention given to keeping him away from the middle of the pitch. Though, it was not his speed that hurt Lyon last week, instead, two brilliant free-kicks. Jermain Defoe will not be with the squad for this match, and Emmanuel Adebayor will likely be leading Spurs up front. The attention to Bale should open up some opportunities for the Togolese big man.
Spurs' pace and skill, especially on the wings will likely be too much for the French outfit to handle. Bale and Aaron Lennon will surely feature on the flanks. Scott Parker and Mousa Dembele will continue their growing partnership in the middle of the park.
Lewis Holtby may get his first European start for Spurs, in an attacking midfield role, just behind Adebayor. All of these options should, in my estimation, result in 1-0 win for Spurs. Their defence should be able to, at the very least, hold a clean sheet, which would advance Spurs to the round of 16.
