Manchester City may have the rare experience of being gazumped in their chase for Brazil star Neymar as Real Madrid are ready to outbid them.
According to the Express, the Santiago Bernabeu club are prepared to go higher than the Abu Dhabi owned Premier League champions to land the Santos man.
It says reports have emerged that Manchester City have held talks with Neymar’s representatives over a possible £50million move to the Etihad Stadium.
However, this claims Real Madrid have put the 21-year-old at the top of their summer shopping list and are determined to make Neymar part of Jose Mourinho’s squad for next season.
Roberto Mancini is unlikely to pass up the opportunity to get a chance to work with Neymar but the Citizens and los Blancos are unlikely to be the only two clubs in for him.
Barcelona have also been heavily linked with a bid for Neymar and the prospect of the player billed as Brazil’s new saviour teaming up with Lionel Messi is an enticing one.
However, it is this saviour status that has led Neymar to hint that he will not be leaving Santos until after he has led the Seleção in the 2014 World Cup, which is being hosted in his native country.
