Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez believes Barcelona's current crop of talent will always be remembered, having been widely regarded as the greatest team of all time.

In an interview with the Catalan Football Federation, the 33-year-old compared his current side with the legendary LA Lakers from yesteryear.

The Spaniard said: "If you compare it with other legendary teams, there has never been active recognition like there is now with Barça.

"They will remember us like we do the Lakers of 30 years ago."

Xavi praised the style of play that Johan Cryuff attempted to implement 30 years ago, a model that former boss Pep Guardiola achieved great success with after reigning in the most glorious period of the club's history.

"I liked the direction Pep took the team in, as Tito, and Jordi now are," said Xavi. "It's the structure Cruyff wanted to put in place 30 years ago. I love that, I can't think about football in any other way."

Xavi gave an insight into what it was like playing under various managers at the Nou Camp, and was full of praise for the work done by his previous bosses.

"Rijkaard gave us that way of attacking that was like a revolution," he added.

"Pep said that now we play from the back, we go 2 on 1 with the keeper and our first reaction was, 'What are you talking about?.

"He works on the defensive system much more and that leaves us freer up front.

"With Luis Aragonés, we played more counterattack, we were looking for quick goals and then spend 15 minutes defending."

Xavi has thrived in the Barcelona model, going on to become one of the most decorated players in world football.

In a team that boasts players such as Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, Xavi perhaps doesn't always grab the headlines.

But make no mistake about it, he's just as important to the Catalan club as record-breaking Messi, and when Xavi eventually calls time on his career, he'll leave a huge void behind at the Camp Nou.
