Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney was joined by teammates Tom Cleverley and Jonny Evans yesterday in a ‘Google+ Hangout’ with DHL, where they answered the fans questions in a Q&A.

The key question which came up was when the trio were asked who is a better player, former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, or Lionel Messi. Not only did Rooney say Messi is better than Ronaldo, but once again he reiterated that Lionel Messi is the greatest player the world has ever seen.

Last year in Rooney’s Q&A on his official Facebook page he was asked the exact same question; who is better between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Being a teammate of the brilliant Ronaldo for many years, you would expect Rooney to rule in favour of his former teammate, but instead he made it clear that he is firmly in the Messi camp.

“I just think the way he plays the game and the goals he scores – he just looks so spectacular, in my eyes anyway, Messi is the best ever,” he said.

Fast forward a year and Wayne Rooney’s opinion has not changed on the matter - he is still a firm believer that Lionel Messi is the greatest player to have graced the game.

This time Rooney said: “They’re two different players. But I think Messi is incredible. I think he’s the best ever, so I’d have to say Messi.

“But Ronaldo has been a bit unlucky because, in any other time, he’d be winning all the awards Messi has. But they’re two of the best players of all-time.”

Since his record breaking move to Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo has notched up a remarkable 183 goals in 181 games for Real Madrid, but Messi remains no slouch; scoring 301 goals in 366 games for Barcelona, both very impressive feats.

From Rooney’s perspective you can understand why it would be difficult to choose between the two.

The fact he was a  teammate of Ronaldo backed up by his impressive Real Madrid career thus far should sway him; but understandably simply being a former teammate rightly hasn't ruled in Ronaldo’s favour.

Wayne Rooney was joined by his Manchester United teammates, midfielder Tom Cleverley and defender Jonny Evans; they also provided their opinions on who they believe is the better of the two.

Cleverley answered: “I never played with Ronaldo. They’re two different players, but at the minute I’d probably take Ronaldo.”

Meanwhile Jonny Evans also gave his vote in favour of Cristiano Ronaldo: “It’s hard to compare them because we haven’t had the chance to see Messi up close every day, but we’ve had that with Ronaldo.

“I was in the first team for one season when Ronaldo was here, and you sort of take it for granted, the quality he had, but I really don’t think I could choose between them.

“But just for the fact that I’ve seen Ronaldo day-in, day-out, and the dedication he has, I’d probably have to say Ronaldo.”

Who better to tell us who is better between the two, with Rooney having played with Ronaldo for so long, it is difficult to question his judgment.
