Arsenal are reportedly favourites to land Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna ahead of Liverpool during the summer transfer window, while the Italian defender has also been scouted by Manchester United.
According to Metro, Arsenal are in pole position to sign Ogbonna when the transfer period opens again at the end of the season, with the Gunners already having made an informal approach for 24-year-old.
This early move by Arsenal has placed them ahead of Liverpool in the reckoning who, like Manchester United, have been keeping tabs on the centre-back over the course of the campaign.
Liverpool will surely be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer with Jamie Carragher set to retire, although the Anfield club may have to look elsewhere with Arsenal in the driving seat for Ogbonna.
Ogbonna has also reportedly attracted interest from Serie A clubs, although Torino's asking price of £17 million has all but extinguished any serious bids from Italian suitors.
But Arsenal are reported to be confident of beating Liverpool and Manchester United to a deal for Ogbonna, and are willing to work around the demands of Torino to negotiate an agreement to suit both parties.
Arsenal, it is claimed, will base their offer for Ogbonna on a reduced initial payment and a variety of additional fees, likely to be based on appearances and performance.
