Portugal international Luis Nani played a decisive role in Manchester United's win against Reading last week by scoring the opening goal along with assisting Javier Hernandez's header. After being sidelined for more than six weeks with a hamstring injury, the star winger came off the bench and definitely made a statement, hoping that his performance proved to be first team worthy.
New contract talks have been on-going with the club and player but it seems that Manchester United are unwilling to guarantee some of Nani's wishes. With new signing Wilfred Zaha coming in the summer to join the likes of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Ryan Giggs, and the possible transfer rumour of James Rodriguez, it seems difficult to guarantee a starting spot for Nani.
But, following the defeat of Reading, Sir Alex Ferguson stated: "I would definitely prefer to keep him.
"He is one of the best match winners in the game and I am including the whole of Europe."
"He has scored the most incredible goals. The boy has a talent for winning matches."
Any club would love to have Nani's talent in their squad as he proved to be a useful winger and goal scorer throughout his Manchester United career. Although Nani appears to be fit and training well, the likelihood of him staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer appears to be decreasing.
Nani is hungry for first-team football as any true competitor should be and the future of the player at Old Trafford is "...entirely up to the boy himself," says the Manchester United manager.
