Spurs winger plays down comparisons with Messi & Ronaldo

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has played down comparisons to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after another scintillating performances in the Premier League.

The Welshman proved to be the difference for Spurs in their 3-2 victory over West Ham United, with the former Southampton starlet opening the scoring on 13 minutes before grabbing a last-gasp winner for the visitors at Upton Park.

But, despite clamour growing over the 23-year-old's high level of performance at White Hart Lane, Bale insists his feet are on the ground and his focus is solely on performance for the north London outfit.

“It’s not for me to say. People can talk and say what they want. They have their own opinions. All I can do is keep trying my hardest and keep playing my best football and trying to do my best for the team," said Bale, according to talkSPORT.

“If newspapers want to talk and start saying things then that is entirely up to them. I can’t control that, all I can do is play well on the pitch.”

Messi and Ronaldo are set to go head-to-head in El Clasico tonight, with Barcelona hosting Real Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final at the Nou Camp.

Bale, meanwhile, will be focused on the fight for third in the English top flight, with Tottenham Hotspur leapfrogging Chelsea with victory last night.

Spurs are also challenging for silverware in Europe, with Andre Villas-Boas looking to guide his side past Inter Milan in the last-16 after victory against Lyon.
