Manchester City to join race for £50m Tottenham star Bale
Gareth Bale transfer news: Tottenham star wanted by Manchester City, Barcelona & Real Madrid
Manchester City will reportedly join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window pursuit of Tottenham star Gareth Bale, although the Spanish giants remain the frontrunners to secure the signature of the coveted Wales international.
Bale has established himself as the most sought after player in Europe following a stunning spell of goalscoring form for Spurs, and the north London club will surely have to field an unprecedented amount of interest when the transfer window opens again.
According to Goal.com, Spurs would only be willing to accept an offer in excess of £50 million for Bale, with Manchester City now among the clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old at the end of the season.
Along with Manchester City, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest in Bale, but Real Madrid reportedly head the queue to sign him, with the Santiago Bernabeu club having pursued the winger for the past two-and-a-half years.
It is also claimed by Goal.com that talks between representatives of the Tottenham player and those of Real Madrid have already taken place, but Los Blancos will not be uncontested in their pursuit of Bale.
Roberto Mancini is reported to have told the Manchester City board of his desire to sign Bale from Spurs, although the Welshman's current employers believe they have enough security to keep him for one more year following the signing of a new contract last summer.
Bale has found the net 19 times for Spurs this term, including eight goals in his past six games, and is favourite with the bookmakers to be named the Premier League's player of the year.
