Chelsea have threatened legal action against bookmaker Paddy Power, after the firm put up an advert telling Fernando Torres to work in a burger van.

The poster pokes fun at the £50million striker's loss of form, saying: 'Fernando, we've got an onion bag you can actually hit. It's in the burger van mate. Get your hair net on.'

The advert is displayed just yards from the club's Stamford Bridge ground, and has already been shared thousands of times on social media websites Twitter and Facebook.

But Chelsea have not been amused, reportedly bringing in lawyers to have it removed, according to the Daily Mail.

At least Torres can perhaps take comfort in the fact there's a job waiting for him should things not work out at the Blues. The Spanish striker again failed to hit the back of the net in the Blues' 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fifth round last night.

The win secured a quarter-final clash against Manchester United, but Torres is far from certain to start at Old Trafford, with Senegalese striker Demba Ba often getting the nod from manager Rafa Benitez.
