Critics have suggested that Arsene Wenger's love of saving money is the main reason his Arsenal side lack quality and a big enough squad.

As we all know, Wenger has a very specific transfer policy, he brings in youth, with a look to develop and nurture his players into fine talents. And this has worked on many occasions. The likes of Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and dare we mention Ashley Cole and Robin van Persie have all been taken under the Frenchman's wing.

The quality of these players show that Wenger knows what makes a good player. We are led to believe that the Frenchman doesn't like spending money.

However, evidence suggests that Wenger has, occasionally, spent heavily on players.  Santi Cazorla, Jose Antonio-Reyes, Sylvain Wiltord and many more have cost in excess of £10 million.

Although, these signings are infrequent and Arsenal fans want to see money spent on a regular basis, where investment in youth is balanced with signing top quality stars.

So, why does Wenger not spend more often? Well, when you have built a team that is rightly labelled 'The Invincibles' spending large amounts of money and bringing in proven talent shows a clear backing from the club's hierarchy.

The club will now only spend £12 to 15 million on a single player. As a professional manager who’s now been trophy-less for nearly eight years it cant be a simple matter of not wanting to spend money.

If the club have decided that they are no longer going to back the manager with millions of pounds then they should come out and say it.

If you fully believe in your manager then you do what you can to make sure that there is no extra pressure on him other than football matters, not economics.

I believe that if he was to replace either Sir Alex Ferguson, Roberto Mancini or Rafael Benitez he would win silverware with the financial power that would be at his disposal.

Just imagine Manchester City with Wenger in charge, dominating football, hard working midfielders, defending and attacking in an instant and with the array of talent going forward Wenger would thrive working with these players.

If Wenger is backed heavily next season, then perhaps The Gunners can mount a serious title challenge again.
