Robin van Persie was involved in a bizarre hip injury during Manchester United's 2-0 win over Queens park Rangers last weekend.
The Dutchman collided with a cameraman and had to be replaced at Loftus Road. The striker has not yet been declared fit and joins defender Phil Jones as a doubt for the Uefa Champions league clash with Real Madrid next week.
However, former United star Quinton Fortune believes The Red Devils don't need their star player to unroot Madrid next week.
Fortune told BBC Radio Manchester: "Robin will be a huge loss if he's not playing, but it's about the team.
"I think it's United's time. They're hungry for success again."
Van Persie has hit three goals in this season's Champions League and will be desperate to play in the return leg, especially after he missed a golden opportunity in the Bernabeu.
It's unlikely United's top scorer will feature against Norwich City on Saturday, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson hoping he'll be fit in time for Madrid.
In addition, Phil Jones may sit out, as he also looks to recover for the round of 16 tie.
Fortune also talked highly of midfielder Michael Carrick, who's having one of his best seasons at the Old Trafford outfit.
He said: "It's not 'is Michael Carrick playing?' any more, but 'who is playing alongside Michael Carrick?'. He's always the first person selected in midfield and he's such an important player.
"You watch him every game and he does his work quietly but effectively.
"You can see his confidence is sky high with his passing range and that's why they signed him from Tottenham. He's definitely showing that at the moment."
