Tottenham star Gareth Bale has played down comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo, but admitted he is flattered to be linked with the best in the world, according to the Daily Mirror.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has compared the Welsh winger to the Real Madrid superstar after an incredible run of goalscoring form - his latest the match-winner against West Ham on Monday night.

But Bale has insisted he's a different kind of player to the former-Manchester United forward.

Speaking to Sport magazine, Bale said: "I don't model my game on his, because I have my own way of playing and it's not exactly the same.

"I think anybody would love to be mentioned alongside the best in the world. It's flattering, but I don't really look too much into it.

"I don't get the newspaper or read too many reports, so I don't really know how much hype there is.

"Obviously my friends tell me things, but I just treat every day as normal and focus on my job."

The Wales international has hit a purple patch of form - scoring eight goals in his last six games - but he's been consistently excellent this term.

And Spurs have reaped the benefits. Under the guidance of Andre Villas-Boas Tottenham sit in third place, four points clear of north London rivals Arsenal.

And the two foes clash on Sunday in what could be a pivotal encounter in the race for the top four.

Arsenal won the previous fixture between the sides 5-2 at the Emirates Stadium, but will go into the tie at White Hart Lane needing to get three points to keep pace with Villas-Boas's squad.
