Robin Van Persie declared fit for Norwich fixture

Robin Van Persie has been declared fit for Manchester United's fixture against Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to the club's official website.

The Dutchman suffered a bruised hip against Queens Park Rangers last weekend, and was a doubt for the visit of the Canaries.

But Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a huge boost after the striker trained all week with the first-team.

And Ferguson revealed he would be in contention to start against Chris Hughton's side. But there was bad news on the injury front as well, as the United boss confirmed Phil Jones will miss Saturday's match, and remains a major doubt to face Real Madrid next week.

Ferguson said: "Phil Jones starts running today. He's got a fight on his hands to be ready for Tuesday [Real Madrid] but we'll give him every chance. He won't be available for tomorrow [Norwich].

"We have no injury issues. Robin Van Persie has trained this week - he's available for tomorrow. His hip was very tender but he's okay now.

"Tomorrow is an important one because Tuesday will look after itself. It's an occasion on Tuesday whereas tomorrow is the mundane practical situation in that we need to win."

12 points clear of title rivals Manchester City, United now embark on a four-game run of home fixtures.

The Red Devils face Norwich this Saturday, before welcoming Real Madrid to Old Trafford for the second leg of the evenly poised last-16 encounter.

Ferguson's side still stand a chance of completing a famous treble, and they host Chelsea in the FA Cup sixth round the week after, before resuming Premier League action against relegation strugglers Reading.

The four-game stretch could prove to be pivotal, with progess in all three competitions at stake.
