Marouane Fellaini could return for Everton this weekend after sitting out of their FA Cup victory over Oldham. The Belgian international had picked up a minor knee injury but should be back for David Moyes' side as they continue their push for the Champions League places.
However, Toffees goalkeeper Tim Howard is an injury doubt. The American sustained a knock during the win against Oldham in midweek, meaning Slovakian 'keeper Jan Mucha could make his first Premier League appearance in his third year at Goodison Park.
Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak will begin a three-match suspension for the red card he picked up following his studs-up tackle on Maynor Figueroa last weekend. Nick Blackman or super-sub Adam Le Fondre will start in his place.
The Royals are also without goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (shoulder) and veteran striker Jason Roberts (hip), who has admitted he does not know when he will be fit enough to play.
Everton boss David Moyes alert to threat of struggling Reading
After suffering a surprise defeat at the Madejski Stadium in November, Everton boss David Moyes has warned his side they cannot take three points for granted against relegation battlers Reading on Saturday.
The Toffees sit sixth in the Premier League, but have lost ground on their Champions League-chasing rivals after a run of three without a victory.
Moyes has told his Toffees side to be wary of the Royals' threat from set-pieces and the late comebacks they have become renowned for this season.
Moyes told evertontv: "Like all the Premier League teams, everybody poses a threat.
"They have been able to get people behind the ball, but they have scored a lot of goals this year as well. They have got a lot of goals from set-pieces and we will have to be mindful of it.
"As I've said many times, games in the Premier League are close encounters. That's the way it has been.
"Brian McDermott has done a really good job. He got them up and he is having a right good go at keeping them in the Premier League.
"But we hope that we can get three points".
