Liverpool are facing a transfer battle with Italian giants Inter Milan over the signature of striker Mauro Icardi.
The Sampdoria starlet has scored eight goals in 20 Serie 'A' appearances, and has caught the eye of Massimo Moratti after an impressive campaign to-date.
"Icardi could be one of our reinforcements if we reach an agreement with Sampdoria. I could see Icardi doing very well at Inter," said the Inter club president, according to Sky Sports.
The former Barcelona youth team product has helped Sampdoria to tenth in the table this season after their promotion from Serie 'B' last term, whilst Inter are in the mix for the Champions League places, currently lying fifth behind AC Milan and Lazio, with Napoli and Juventus further ahead at the top of the table.
Liverpool aren't the only Premier League team keen on the player though, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also showing an interest, according to the report. Both teams might also be able to offer the player Champions League football next season, something that appears unlikely for the Reds.
Brendan Rodgers has guided the Anfield outfit to eighth in the English top flight this season, some ten points behind Chelsea in fourth with just 11 games to go.
However, Liverpool are short of striking options, with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge the only forwards available to the manager through the centre, and Icardi would certainly add another dimension to the attack on Merseyside.
