Having scored on his 999th professional appearance, 39-year-old Ryan Giggs has penned yet another contract extension at the club.

This latest deal will keep him at Old Trafford till June 2014, which will see him play into his 40’s.

Following the news of  Giggs' hard earned extension, there has been no shortage of praise regarding the Welshman’s seamless career which is now leading to his 23rd season as a United professional at the helm of English football.

With the announcement of Giggs' extended contract today, Ferguson elatedly sang his praises of the phenomenal professional and his continued contributions.

United's midfielder Michael Carrick is the latest to have expressed his joy of the Welshman’s extended deal and heaped praise on him, telling United's official website:

"He sets an example – and has done for a number of years. He is Mr Manchester United.

"He sets the tone around the dressing room. He doesn’t say an awful lot but when he does speak, everyone listens and everyone respects him. It leads onto the pitch.

"Not many people have lasted as long as Ryan. You have to take it year by year and see how your legs hold up. He is a one-off.

"It is not just that he is still playing, it is the way he has adapted his game. In his younger years he had a totally different way of playing than he has now. To be able to do that can’t be easy. It shows the qualities that he has."

Tipped to now make his 1,000th career appearance and 932nd for The Red Devils against Norwich City at the weekend, many find themselves asking when this illustrious and glorious career will ever end.
