Video: Corsican derby descends into chaos as five sent off

Published 3 Comments

Five players were sent off during a hugely controversial Corsican derby this weekend in Ligue 1.

Bastia chalked up a narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Ajaccio in the French top flight, but punch-ups and naughty tackles saw the referee dish out five red cards.

Bastia went one goal ahead early in the second half, before Mathieu Chalme saw red for his second yellow card ten minutes from the end.

But it all kicked off deep into stoppage time, after Ajaccio striker Dennis Oliech appeared to kick Bastia keeper Mickael Landreau in the face as he attempted to score.

That sparked a huge scrap, and when the dust settled, the referee sent off four more – at one stage he even launched his red card straight up in the air. It was all a bit farcical and not a great advert for Ligue 1.

Take a look at the highlights in the video above...
