With Barcelona down 2-1 in stoppage time, Adriano was seemingly fouled in the box by Sergio Ramos, however referee Perez Lasa neglected to give a penalty to the Catalans.

While many Barcelona players sought to confront Lasa concerning the no-call, Valdes waited until the final whistle to unleash a verbal tirade at the Spanish official. Lasa dished out two yellow cards in quick succession, resulting in a red card for the Spanish international.

Following a report filed by Lasa, La Liga may take further action against Valdes due to his offensive and insulting remarks post-game. If action is taken against the Barcelona keeper it could be up to a five game ban - the same punishment handed out to Sergio Ramos by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) for insulting referee Miguel Angel Ayza Gamez in a match against Celta Vigo two months ago.

Tito Vilanova's side ultimately lost the match 2-1 - their second defeat to Real Madrid in the space of five days.

Barcelona currently sit top of the table by eleven points with 12 games to go, and are 13 points ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid after Saturday’s loss.

Barcelona back up goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto is expected to deputise for Valdes in his absence, while Valdes will resume his duties as keeper when AC Milan visit the Camp Nou for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie next Tuesday.
