For many of our well-known stars, you can’t really see them progressing far with their international squads.
Here, are the top 5 players who are simply rare diamonds for their country:
5. Edinson Cavani | Uruguay
In the last couple of years, Edinson Cavani has shown his class. He has progressed to become one of the meanest and remarkable strikers in Europe. Currently playing for Napoli, the Uruguayan looks set to scout for another club this summer.
However, the problem doesn’t lie with Napoli, his talent seems to be wasted at Uruguay. Despite being one of the country’s top players, Uruguay are not known for constant trophy collecting. They have produced fine talent in the past, however they don’t posses the calibre of teams such as Spain and Argentina where Cavani would be greatly suited to.
4. Antonio Valencia | Ecuador
The Manchester United winger has become a fine talent at Old Trafford, and has scored some wonder goals in his time. His playing style is slick and clever, but you have to ask how on earth he can progress at international level?
He plays for Ecuador, and in all honestly they aren’t the premium of sides in South America. Someone of Valencia’s calibre could be amongst the likes of Brazil, who have a reputation for players in his position.
3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Sweden
Sweden have had many highs, however have never really looked like winning a major trophy in recent history. Howevever, their 2012 match against England proved to be a famous victory for the Swedish.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored four goals that night, and no one can forget that wonderful overhead kick Zlatan embarrassed England with.
It’s without doubt he at the heart of Swedish football, but you can’t help but think that a player who can whip goals in like that should be at a higher ranked side than Sweden.
2. Gareth Bale | Wales
A big built Welshman, who runs on the planks constantly for club and country. You can’t go wrong with a player like him. This season has seen Gareth Bale build a strong reputation with Tottenham. He has been scoring goals for fun of late and is in the form of his life.
Wales have created very few legends who have gone on to achieve so much in their careers.Ryan Giggs is one Welshman who's hit great heights throughout his career and Bales is certain to be the next legend in line.
You just hope that Wales make the most of his calibre and talent, and at the very least reach a major competition.
1. Radamel Falcao | Colombia
Let’s be honest, there aren’t many footballing greats from Colombia. Falcao on the other hand is one of the world’s supreme players.
So far this season, the striker has smashed 21 goals in La Liga. He’s at the level where you expect to see him lifting the World Cup, but at Colombia this looks very doubtful.
He is simply a rare diamond in the Colombia mix. Falcao is another player who may never get the opportunity to play on the world's greatest stage.
