Chelsea are ready to offer Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao a four-year contract worth £40miilion in an attempt to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
Falcao has long been admired by Blues owner Roman Abramovich and the Russian billionaire could tempt the Colombian forward away from the clutches of Real Madrid with an offer of over £190,000-a-week, the Daily Express has reported.
Abramovich is believed to have contacted Falcao's agent Jorge Mendes in order to negotiate a deal for the Atletico striker. Mendes has worked with Chelsea before, having brokered the deals for Jose Mourinho and his signings Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, Tiago and Maniche.
The former Porto attacker has been prolific since his €40million move to Atletico Madrid in summer 2011. He is currently third in the La Liga top goalscorers list behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on 21 goals and has 27 in all competitions this season, including a hat-trick against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in August.
He has been in terrific form for Colombia too, scoring five goals in six of their qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, a record that has taken them to third in the group and pushed them to sixth in the FIFA rankings.
