Stoke City are reportedly lining up a summer swoop for Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

According to the Sunday People, the ex-Charlton Athletic prospect has been frozen out of the first-team picture by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, and is expected to be available for around £7 million at the end of the season.

Often heavily criticised by Liverpool fans for his performances at Anfield this season, it could be the end of the road for Shelvey’s Liverpool career having made a £1.7 million move to Merseyside as a teenager in 2010.

Shelvey has endured a disappointing Liverpool career – often flattering to deceive having arrived from The Valley with growing rumours of having the potential to become a future England captain.

Shelvey has just the one solitary England appearance so far - coming off the bench to help the Three Lions to a comprehensive 5-0 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory over San Marino in November, but hasn’t had another sniff since.

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is thought to be a big fan of the central midfielder, who has scored five goals in all competitions for the Reds this term.

And with Charlie Adam, who made a similar move from Liverpool to The Britannia Stadium last summer, linked with an early Potters exit, Pulis could look to Shelvey as a replacement for the Scotsman.
