Dawson: Gareth Bale is the best in the world
Tottenham news: Spurs captain Michael Dawson has claimed Gareth Bale is 'up there' with Ronaldo and Messi
Gareth Bale is currently the best player in the world according to Tottenham Hotspur teammate Michael Dawson.
The Spurs captain told Topman Generation that Bale is as good as Lionel Messi and would embarrass Cristiano Ronaldo with his technique.
He said: "Gaz is up there with Ronaldo and Messi in terms of ability - he's one of the best players in the world at the moment, and probably the best in the world for me right now.
"Some of the things he does would have Ronaldo blush. His goal this season against Norwich where he picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled past all those players before having the calmness and composure to put it in the bottom corner."
Bale has been in sensational form since the turn of the year and has scored 10 goals in his last eight games for club and country, including a last-minute 30-yard scorcher in a 3-2 victory over West Ham.
When Bale first arrived at White Hart Lane in 2007 he went on run of 24 matches without a win and Dawson praised the Welshman for his effort and improvement.
"He's been brilliant and credit to him because it hasn't been easy for him," he said. "He'll be the first to admit he found it difficult when he first came to Tottenham, people forget he moved here when he was 17."
Dawson also acclaimed Tottenham's current form. Andre Villas-Boas' side are on their longest unbeaten streak since the beginning of the Premier League, spanning 12 games.
He said: "Quality can't be turned off. We have had our dips in form but I think the squad is maturing together and that's why we're playing so well at the moment. Tottenham is a great place to be right now and long may it continue.
"At the start of the season our aim was to get back in the Champions League. To finish fourth last season and then not qualify in the manner we did was devastating but we didn't mope, we've just worked harder this season and it seems to be paying off."
Spurs are third in the Premier League table, seven points clear of fifth, after their 2-1 win over rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
