After Arsenal's 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane, The Gunners need to think of a plan to sort their squad out, and to get it back together.
The London derby is an example of how poor Arsenal have been performing this season, and how much work needs to be put in to rebuild the club.
The Gunners plan activity in the transfer market this summer, and with potential new owners on the lookout, it could be a promise Arsenal live up to after all. Good news for Arsenal fans right?
Well not quite because now the side face a horrifying challenge to finish in the top four this season. With just ten games remaining in the league and seven points adrift of Spurs, the race for fourth looks somewhat dim for Arsenal.
Not only does this mean that they won’t qualify for the Champions League, but it also means that it becomes a more daunting task to attract new players to the side.
Arsenal need stars, who have experience and leadership. Players of this calibre are more likely to be persuaded by clubs who have a Champions League spot, so Arsenal won’t stand much of a chance.
The club clearly needs new players to gain trophies and to qualify for the Champions league, but then they need a qualification spot to attract the players. It’s a troublesome loop Arsenal have got themselves into, and one which you can’t see them getting out of.
There may be one option for the Gunners. If the speculation about new owners for the side is true, they may bring in fresh ideas and money which could be enough to appeal to many players. Nevertheless, Arsenal are in a situation which would challenge the very best of players, fans and mangers, and will take time for this club to be rebuild.
This problem hasn’t just crept up on Arsenal, it has been coming for some time. Ever since they started to see their best players, since the departure of Cesc Fabregas, the club have been going down-hill. The club have burnt their bridges. They have left themselves stranded in one difficult situation, a situation that tests the most patient of fans. Arsenal’s moment of glory will come in its own time but it will certainly take a while.
